A name change...

You may remember me lamenting the deletion of Ikea's popular Expedit Storage units awhile ago. Well the good news is that they are being replaced with the KALLAX range. The new design is claimed to be more durable and child-friendly whilst still accommodating all existing storage boxes and baskets.

 EXPEDIT                                                     KALLAX

The range of configurations has been reduced as have the external dimensions and... price!
Further details are available HERE.

I'm off to check them out in store!

bits and bobs....

O.K! sooooo, I've had some eBay hit 'n misses of late. The Foo Dogs in the middle image are definitely those that were advertised (Left) and which I received. But their size, as seen in this wee  re-styled space shows it pays to read-the details; importantly, the dimensions!!!!

Like wise my cheap-from-China, necklaces-to-be-turned-into-Christmas-Decorations! The mini pearl encrusted bags (eBay image, left) were dirty bronze (eeek!see middle pic) but the parfum bottles and duck posted about HERE were gorgeous! Still waiting for three little soldiers to arrive....

In better news, love my new mani / pedi combo....hopefully I'll get a few days out of the pretty nail colour 'cause I'm sooo rough!
Had my hair cut and coloured too, and for once am happy with it; a rare event!
These treats coincide with a fix-me attitude ATM. Booked waaay overdue (Shhhh...don't tell Mum!) visits to my cardiologist and endocrinologist. Have had lots of blood taken and have received an urgent call back. Eeeek! Mammogram booked as is a skin-cancer check. Have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy. My optometrist prescribed new glasses. Have sparkling clean toothy-pegs! Sleep clinic next week!
Not much left to prod or pull, I've gotta tell ya!

J co-incidentilly brought home a gorgeous little multi-coloured 'worry doll' from school. L.O.V.E. He made it from an old wooden peg and cotton tip and I decided to frame it. I used an A4 brush-out of his bedroom-to-be wall colour; Dulux Red Box, super glued the little figure to it and popped it into an IKEA Ribba box frame. Too easy and cute!

Played around in the main bathroom, zhushing some bits and pieces....Love the pop of colour this Missoni hand towel brings to the room!

Have sorted all the DVD's, Blu-Ray, X-box, PS2, PS3 and Wii discs into plastic tubs inside the new entertainment unit. Whew!
I couldn't get the clear tubs I was after but these coloured ones do the job!

And....drum-roll....the Guest Bed, ensuite vanity is in! Stone top and all!
Some more tiling to be done, a bit of stylin' and another room will be complete! Yee Hah!

Christmas seems to be approaching like an out-of-control, run-away train so I'm going to concentrate on that next...

IKEA. I - kea-d you not!

Remember my recent IKEA post HERE, where I sang their praises?

Well, as Murphy's Law would have it, I jinxed myself.

And of course, said shelf decided to de-construct at 2:30 am. Why do these things happen at night!
?
Thank goodness for Aunt Mary's old jug.
Coincidentally, the only glass that tumbled off was also hers but didn't break - on concrete floors!

The moral to this tale? Cost-effective furniture can come at a high price....

today

I had a busy but productive day today.
I drove to Sydney to collect my 'pod' chair,

popped into Ikea for some print frames for a planned arty project

and visited Mum and Dad too.
Brought home an old aluminium table and chair set that I'm (*cough* - David) is repainting for the Nest leavers. Made it back for the 3 pm school pick up via a mega fast food shop! Whew!

Thank God for BBQ chickens and salad packs!

I SPY: New Ikea Catalogue 2013!

Ikea have just released their newest catalogue. The 2013 version. The catalogue itself has been heralded as Ikea's greatest product ever! It uses augmented reality technology which seems to me to be a fancy way of saying it's quite interactive with the consumer who uses an iPhone. I found lots and lots of inspiration, new well designed items and of course affordably priced basics.

I liked this new bed design and the natural coloured linen pictured above and was amused to see Ikea 'hacking' their own furniture to show it's versatility in the catalogue. A graffiti chest of drawers might be my next art project! (How cool would this look in my 20 year old daughter's black walled bedroom!?)

My favourite palette of Black and White was well catered for in everything from home wares to art but colour was everywhere too!. I particularly love these gold interior ANGENĂ„M bowls.
Very 'Tom Dixon'-ish!

The EXPEDIT range of bookcases have had a price reduction....yes, that's not a typo. A reduction! I have these bookcases in almost every room in my home....can't live without them!

So you can guess where I'll be choofing off to A.S.A.P!
Have you had a squizz yet? Any favourites?

Domestic stuff and good design - dinnerware

I had a wee read of my own posts today and realised that I have no idea what I'm doing. Technically, I think I'm getting better. I know how to put credits under photos, shift their position, adjust their size and have added labels to my blog! Content wise? Well, it looks as mad as an old woman's breakfast. (All over the place!) So I thought I'd try sticking with a 'theme' for a week and thought I'd start with the items that have good design and are boringly practical.
There are lots of great stores, online and / or retail that specialise in this sort of thing. 'Top 3' by design is one of my faves and I love receiving their catalogues.

Above are some pictures of my everyday crockery. They are housed temporarily, (as is the case for most stuff about here) in an Ikea Expedit bookcase. (I have 6 of these bookcases. They're so versatile!) For awhile now I've noticed how worn they're looking and so an update will be soon required. They're a mish mash of brands; Maxwell Williams (porcelain), Vue (fine bone china) and Freedom. The bottom picture shows how they have worn. The porcelain gets marked indelibly by cutlery, far more than the bone china which is also whiter and finer looking. I bought the lipped dinner plates from Freedom because I liked their shape. And that lip is practical too! Below are my current 'TOP OF THE LIST' favourites for purchase. They're from Noritake and are designed by Marc Newson. High quality fine bone china. Tick. White. Tick. Lipped plates. Tick. Divine, don't you think?

Photos courtesy of Noritake

They are not available until August here, but can be pre-ordered - at a discounted price!!! Yee Ha!!!
