Reluctant Restraint

When I first started blogging and commenced this build, I had a very clear image of how I wanted the interiors to look. Going back to THIS post of 2012, dark eclecticism stopped my heart!

I think those stunning Chinese black and gold lacquer cabinets played a huge part in my adoration of this apartment and desire to replicate that here...

So imagine my excitement when I discovered this beautiful piece on eBay...

Although the seller said pick-up only, she agreed I could obtain a courier to collect.
As it was such a substantial size (over 3 meters in length), I was hopeful that I would not have a huge amount of competition...

and it sold for a song...

I reluctantly decided not to bid.
Unusually for me, I showed some very rare restraint as, although it was a once in a life-time chance to own something of such beauty, the only spot I had to accommodate it was in the playroom.
As a television console! Sacrilege!

I will probably kick myself forever for passing on this opportunity ...

Admirable Architecture ...

You may remember a beautiful home designed by Architecture Saville Isaacs which my husband David built, and I blogged about, back in 2012. If not, do yourself a favour and have a peep HERE!

Last weekend, whilst perusing the Sydney Morning Herald I spotted Steven and Lisa's own home for sale, featured as House of the Week. It has the same contemporary lines and dramatic spaces as the Avoca Beach House and is environmentally friendly as well!

No trees were removed during construction of their semi-detached home which is situated on a waterfront reserve.

Located in prestigious Hunters Hill, the home uses wholly sustainable and recycled materials.
As the SMH article notes, this is "a feat that earned 'the treehouse' a spot on the Discovery Channel's The Worlds Greenest Homes show.

It should be no surprise that it has collected eight design and building awards too.

Can't wait to see their next project!

winter

via Abode
Mother Nature skipped Autumn and Winter has been slow to arrive here this year. Whilst we have been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather, I was aware of a strong desire for some variation. This long weekend has brought wet, cooler temperatures and although not nice for holiday makers, I've quite enjoyed the excuse to snuggle-up inside. I think I was missing the transformation in wardrobe and decor that comes with a change of season!

One of the items on my winter 'radar' and wish-list has been Mongolian wool cushions.

Anywho, in perfect timing, a white, Mongolian wool cushion has arrived at La Hacienda from Abode Living! It has definitely added the requisite texture and warmth to our new sofa and is divinely soft.
Only problem? I think it needs a friend...

A name change...

You may remember me lamenting the deletion of Ikea's popular Expedit Storage units awhile ago. Well the good news is that they are being replaced with the KALLAX range. The new design is claimed to be more durable and child-friendly whilst still accommodating all existing storage boxes and baskets.

 EXPEDIT                                                     KALLAX

The range of configurations has been reduced as have the external dimensions and... price!
Further details are available HERE.

I'm off to check them out in store!
