My week...

H e l l o ! ! !

It's been a busy week here with lots of different stuff going on.

I've decided to start a de-clutter, commencing with my wardrobe. Why?
Because I have have not come to terms with never being a size 6 or 8 again! *sob*
(Still holding out hope for a 10 or 12 though! LOL!)

I found this brand new Oroton bag in the back of my cupboard! Eeeek! Took it for an outing to Grand Designs on Sunday but I now like a longer strap to keep my hands free so onto eBay it went. Click HERE if you're interested!

Love this little Jonathan Adler tray in silver (and the gold version too). Wishing someone in Oz would stock it so I can avoid those exy US shipping charges.

The lovely people at Rolling Stone Landscapes have given me the faux lawn supplier's deets! Yay!

I was thrilled to receive my recently ordered West Elm cutlery after THIS fiasco. Um....x 2!
1800 # assistance quick to apologise and easy to to get on to, but after three lengthy conversations, still no promised return authorisation docs. Apparently I wasn't charged for the $600+ of merchandise (they were very grateful I rang!)... hopefully they can survive these teething problems and don't scoot back to the US prematurely!

Darling daughter # 1, S purchased a new laptop. Oh My! Techno loaded and pretty too at < $1K!
The BF's parents have returned from OS bearing gifts....too funny!

And oops! I wrote a little one where a zero should've been on the custom shaving cabinet drawings.
A half hour installation turned into a four hour re-make, then install. Lucky he loves me!
Needless to say the vanity waits for another day. Thank God the other crucial deets were correct.
When glazed, the cabinetry will sit perfectly flush with the walls. Whew!

Oh, and although this isn't my pic above, Mum & bub whales gave my girlfriend J and I a very similar show at brecky! Love living in paradise!!!!

whales

The annual northern migration of whales has started with the first pods being seen along much of the Sydney coast. Every day last week we were lucky to have spotted them as they moved past us at Copacabana. With binoculars at the ready, it's one of the best treats we experience living here.
And it doesn't matter one jot that the house is half-finished! LOL!

whale watching...

I've been watching, from my laundry window (our temporary kitchen!), the annual whale migration north for over six weeks now...
There seems to be more this year than ever.

Yesterday, we took a whale watching tour from Mosman Bay to get up close and personal and it was FANTASTIC! Below are some snaps of our day....

J was given the thrill of sailing / steering the boat out through the heads! We saw several albatross and a large pod of dolphins played along side the boat! The weather was perfect and after much searching to the south of Sydney, we found a mother Humpback Whale with a week old calf. She circled quite slowly and close to our catamaran; a Marine Researcher (part of the tour) excitedly telling us that this was a rare sighting...she was suckling the calf and staying close to the surface.

It was a truly magical experience and one that I would thoroughly recommend!

ADDENDUM:
I just watched today's news: a mother humpback whale and her calf were injured after a collision with the Collaroy, a Sydney Ferry at 8:40 this morning. I am hoping they weren't 'our' pair that we watched yesterday but there is every chance they were. They had no fear of boats. So sad. We're hoping they'll recover fully. Fingers & toes firmly crossed.

Annual migration

We are very fortunate here to have great views of the ocean. The front of our house faces North to North - East and we have designed the house to capture those views with deck areas off the family room, formal lounge / dining and main bedroom. One of the nicest parts of our design (I think!), is the multi - purpose laundry area. It overlooks the largest deck area on the middle level and is very generous in size. We have incorporated concertina windows to one wall of the laundry so that it can be used additionally as a kitchenette or bar area servicing this entertainment level.  The pool will be on this level too. One day!!!!
I was ironing today and saw my first whale of the season. They do an annual migration north to warmer waters to have their calves. We then get a birdseye's view again on their return in September, bubs in tow, often playing together in groups for a few hours! Magic!!!

Don't you just hate power lines!!!? The whale was breaching. It made my day! And I found this picture of the HMAS Adelaide being scuttled to form an artificially reef off Avoca Beach. My eldest daughter snapped this one from our top deck a few months ago whilst we has a lovely brunch and glass of champers to watch with lots of friends!
