A Tour Through Blogland

The lovely Natalie from In The Night Sky has nominated me to join A Tour Through Blogland. Natalie's blog is a favourite of mine, not only because she shares my love of Black and White interiors but because her posts are always an informative, warts n' all description of renovating. And her design aesthetic is inspirational too!

Anyhow...here's my wee tour via answering four questions:

1. What am I working on?

ATM, probably too many projects at once! Trying to make some progress on our house is always top of the list but, like many others, time and money are in short supply!

To be more specific though: Finishing painting the walls in the lounge / dining area. Trying to find my lost mojo for a large painting that I started. Organising the underfloor heating for the main bedroom en suite and upstairs powder room. Finalising colour specifications for a client project. Designing some custom cabinetry for the new bathrooms, hall and laundry.

2. How does my work differ from others in the DIY / Decorating genre?

Unfortunately the pace of my project is so abysmally slow that if you read a post once a year you'd probably catch-up pretty quickly. I find that frustrating and fill in the 'blanks' with inspirational material, client projects, family life and shopping finds!

3. Why do I write what I do?

Like Natalie, I often wonder why I blog and recently I have been toying with the idea of deleting my site entirely. I do enjoy posting when I can, it is a personal 'diary' in many ways but sometimes I wonder if having my life online is a bit too invasive. Most of my friends and family aren't aware of my blog and I like it that way. I feel very uncomfortable with the thought of anonymous spying but love reading other's renovating blogs and contributing to that pool of information regarding experiences.  I make no money from blogging but get an enormous amount of pleasure from reading others opinions, comments and reactions to my posts.

4. How does your writing/creating process work?

Finding time is obviously necessary. Then, with a post idea formulated, I'll go searching my own computer files, Pinterest and Google for images after which I'll write the content. Sometimes I'll have a few ideas which I jot down but usually I only post when I want to and I have a clear topic. It is time consuming but now I've mastered most of the mechanics it is much easier.

It's my turn now to nominate two blogs:

Heidi is an Architect, Interior Designer, Mother of three, Cook, Baker, Reader, Gardener, Fashion Lover, Renovator, and Writer of random things in South Australia! She is a talented writer whose posts are varied in content and substantial in quality. Her home renovation posts are my favourites; full of generous information and tips for others.

Kristie is a Professional Blogger. She is also an Interior Stylist, Colour Consultant and full time Mummy and Wife. She has just finished building house number 4 and has renovated 7 in the last 11 years. I love how varied her posts are and have particularly enjoyed following her latest build project.

Pop over and see why I nominated them...and don't forget to take a peep at In the Night Sky too!

Thank you Natalie for the invitation to be part of A Tour Through Blogland!

Bits 'n Bobs

We are in the middle of the first week of school holidays here. Holidays = Sleep-ins = Bliss.
J's been busy with 'sleepovers' which seem to be the 11-year-old thing-to-do. I miss him.

David and I took J and a mate to Singleton to visit the Australian Army Infantry Museum (David taking a day off work to do so) on the recommendation of a fave blogger. Might've been a good idea to check their opening times....closed on Tuesdays nearly caused bloody WW3!

Anywho...the four hour drive included a lovely lunch at the Potters Hotel Brewery. Open fire, great food, a game of pool, choc tops...no more needs to be said, really.

The steel base for my 'wish-list', family room coffee table is complete! (planned way back HERE). Now I need to get it powder coated and the timber top made. (Might not be pressing Davey for this ATM....LOL!)

The Main Bathroom mirrors are in; there's NO hiding! (1) but I'm yet to clean and style...
Still sorting through Ray's belongings and preparing a worthy Memorial Service (2 & 3)
(4) Hello George! Considering these tiles for a feature wall in Mum's bathroom. ?
Skeletal baby bird. (5) Thanks David, but I like my taxidermy free of 50 years of cobwebs!
My heart melted when my son gave me these after a play day at a mates. 11 years old and 'man' enough to give these to me in front of them. Mwaaah! (6)
(7) How can THIS baby be one?
Over joyed when Davey offered to cook....(8) but W.T.F has he done to my oven?!
(9) A local riding a 'static wave' as Avoca Lake burst through it's bank into the sea. Amazing!
Boys. Mud. Mates. (10) Evidence!

My Saturday...

Top to Bottom, Left to Right:

Unpacked these wee Kidrobot POP Balloon animals that I found on Ebay. They are sooo cute! I bought the cheapest ones as I want to paint them all the one colour. Gold.  Like Holly from Glamourmash did. Love. (PS: Check out Holly's Blog for some awesome glamour inspiration!)

The Middle Child, A, is contemplating leaving the nest!!! *sob*
Maybe
Or going to Europe. Or back to Uni...
Just-in-case the move wins her internal debate she bought this eight seater dining setting. A $250 bargain. In as-new-condition. She's my girl! LOL! And it is now sitting upstairs in a recently cleared area. I will not repeat David's enthusiastic exclamation at it's arrival. Aunt Mary's fridge and washing machine are to join it next week. Hooray.......N O T!

All those Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and West Elm pre-opening blogger posts have had me enthralled and glued to my iPad.
My invite obviously got lost in the mail.
I'm more an online shopper these days anywho... so thought I'd give them a whirl. Clickety-clack and this PB faux coral whatsie should be knocking on moi's door. Will keep you up to date on the service...

Our main bedroom, walk-in-robe and the shoe cupboard are all ready for fit-out; architraves, skirting and doors. Then we can paint! Yippee!!!! (NO prizes for what David did today!)

My secret (shhhh) Mother's Day pressie from J.Crew arrived yesterday. I first told you more about it HERE. It is absolutely beautiful and antiquey looking but sadly is going to be returned. Maybe it's the old scraggy neck and a gazillion scars but it just doesn't sit right. It's shaped so it sits off the chest in a bulky way....I do not need more bulk! The second pic shows how it's curved. Must ask Ms Moth if hers does that too?

Had a bit of a fiddle with the niche styling. I think the rear wall needs to be painted?
See the A4 swatch on the lower LHS of the artwork? Dulux Timeless Grey
Whatchathunk?

Drafted some landscaping plans....a girl's gotta dream! (And I was procrastinating from cleaning out the bird cage....LOL!)

Speaking of birds....perhaps this guy can replace the necklace for Mother's Day?
Ooooh, there's a happy thought!

Hope you had a lovely Saturday....what did you get up to?

Yippie!

My problem with not being able to comment on other's blogs and reply to those left here has been resolved! Thank bloody goodness!
I fixed it the very intellectually technical way of opening, closing, re-booting and re-checking all the boxes in all the choices in all the thingies.
Wouldn't it be nice if all those 'lost' comments would now show up and go where they were meant to!
J's back to school tomorrow and daylight saving has started here so getting up early tomorrow morning is going to be challenging to put it mildly!

IT S.O.S... Calling all clever bloggies...

 I am a terrible speller.
As an ex teacher (general primary and secondary Visual arts trained) I survived 20 years with a 10" Oxford dictionary by my side. To me, Spell-check was the best invention - EVER!!!
In my defence, I was taught to read in the sixties using an experimental reading teaching scheme called the 'Initial Teaching Alphabet' ( I.T.A. or i.t.a.)
To save your sanity the link and relativity is above for those interested in our education history!
Anyhoo... back to the problem at hand.
How do I spell-check comments I leave for others? Am I missing some obvious button? (It honestly wouldn't surprise me!)

Looking forward to your replies....

I'm in a bit of a quandary; your place or mine?

I'm in a bit of a quandary.
I feel I'm still very new to blogging and would dislike to naively show no etiquette with my posts.
I've learnt how to attribute images to their source (Yee Ha!) and create links to refer interested readers to further information. (I thought I was a bloody legend when I worked that out!)
But, my problem now is with comments.

Do I reply to your generous feedback (I so appreciate your time!) on my own blog? (This is what I have been doing; mostly because the 'chain' of the discussion makes more sense)
OR
Do I pop over to your blog to reply to you? (And then I know you're going to get my reply and not vainly presume you'll check back to see?)

I love it when I see a box that I can mark to receive e-mailed further replies on a comment chain but I don't offer this as I don't know how to do it. (Do you? Please share!)

What's your opinion / What do you do?
