Colour crush: 'Hermes' Orange

I'm still in love with my black and white decorating scheme but I find I'm being drawn to colour lately too. Rather than bold swathes of it, I'm attracted to small highlights here and there in accessories and small objects. This week's favourite is what I'd call
'Hermes' Orange.

I bought two of these orange and black lacquer boxes (the medium and large size seen below and which are also featured in the first picture on this post), intending them to pick up the orange hue in my David Bromley Butterfly throw.

When I pulled the throw out of storage to compare the colours I got a rude shock! I'd forgotten I'd swapped the throw above for the more muted one below! Bugger!
(I blogged about them Here, here and here)

And I also swapped my initial purchase of 'The Boys In Boat' (above) to the flower one below which features yellow, not orange. Double damn! Don't you hate wrong decisions!?

Anyhoo, back into storage they've all gone. I'm going to spend some time making an inventory of what I've already purchased for the finished house to prevent 'oop's' like this one!
Maybe the  'Hermes' orange boxes will be a minor feature in the study!
What do you think? Would you use this colour?

Rose coloured decisions!

I have loved Rose Gold forever. Waaaaaaay back when I was young, it was deemed 'old fashioned' and I was quite the misfit amongst friends who loved silver or yellow-gold jewelry.

I have few nice silver and yellow-gold pieces but my love of rose gold never wanes.
As I 've gotten older my jewelry has gotten chunkier along with me (LOL!!!) and the choice of items available in rose gold has increased too. The last few summers I have worn my Triwa rose gold and white watch with my other favourite jewelry pieces (see below) but I'm thinking of adding an all rose coloured over sized watch for winter.

I have two 'good' watches, a Frederique Constant Rose Gold and black alligator and a stainless steel with diamonds Longines, so I just want a fun watch that isn't going to cost the earth.
Some Internet searching has revealed Michael Kors as a contender, especially because they're very well priced if bought from the US.

I love this one in particular: MK Rose Golden Over sized Chronograph
(also pictured top RHS of the four MK pictures).
What do you think? Fun or O.T.T? Has anyone bought watches from overseas via the Internet?
Are you 'on the hunt' for anything particular for winter?

I know that I have posted photos of this project before; ( 1, 2, 3) as it was built and till completion, but the professional photographs showcase the Architect's vision in both design and decoration and hubby's construction skills so much better that my iPhone snaps!
We wish Lisa and Steven the recognition they deserve!

Still Stalking Skulls!

As anyone who has been regularly reading my blog would know, I've had an obsession with a particular carved skull, first seen in 2004. (Pictured top LHS) When I finally tried to obtain one, I found they were no longer being imported and I was devastated.
On attending the Decoration + Design fair in January of this year I discovered that the original wholesaler was re-importing and I ordered one. (Picture top RHS). The problem with wholesale buying is that you often cannot 'pick' an individual piece from stock as you do in a retail store. My ordered skull is a far cry from the beauty of the 2004 model and I've been a bit disappointed about this big decor statement.

I was pretty excited then to see the picture above on Peepmystyle blog. Claudia has just returned from her Honeymoon to Bali and snapped this on her travels. The carving is detailed and the horns stunning. She saw allot of them over there. Yee Ha!!!!

Why didn't I think to google 'carved skulls' before? Duh!
A treasure trove of images, mostly from Bali were to be found....
Check these out...

I've contacted Customs and have the green light there, but Australian Quarantine will have to check it over and I may have to pay for it to be fumigated...but I'm thinking one of these is coming home - somehow,  in hand luggage real soon!
