the weekend, summer wardrobes and my looming 50!

After fishing all day and perfect weather all weekend, we concluded Sunday's R & R with a visit to neighbouring MacMaster's Beach.
The sky put on a superb light show, (iPhone pic to illustrate above!)  the ice-creams were divine and we were able to 'spot' our house along the ridge at Copacabana!

The temperature here has felt more spring-like of late and I'm tempted to buy a few new season items.

I lived in Kaftan's last summer and am loving my transeasonal, light-weight silk shirt (top right).
Camilla have released their new season designs and I'm coveting their Jaguar print.
Um-ing and ah-ing over another long sleeved shirt or the full length kaftan style (perhaps appropriate for my imminent 50th birthday dinner?)
They're pretty exy so I want to get allot of wear from the garment...which leads me to the shirt but long sleeves in summer???
If it came in a short kaftan style it would be a no brain-er!
Aghhhhh!

Main Bathroom update!

I FINALLY have one bathroom 95 % complete!
I am very, very happy with how it has turned out and really glad I decided to omit the second basin at the last minute. There are some minor lighting issues to deal with and the hand towel rail to be installed when Davey has the time but at least we're fully functional! Whoop, whoop!

seren'dipitous online shopping!

I've found an aesthetic soul-mate in Aaron Bourne of Harold's Finishing Touches.
After 'discovering' him via Jen Bishop of The Interiors Addict in 2012, there's been little need for trawling the Internet for special pieces that pique my interest. No sore feet and disappointment in the local store offerings either!
Except for the faux bovine skull, all the items below are from his online store - it's a good thing (for my wallet) I don't live near enough to pop into his physical one!

Another serendipitous online find was the replica Constellation Map - Explorer; Compass to The Southern Sky, below right. Not a bad representation of the Thomas O'Brien map featured in the Elle Decor image, below left. Thank you Mimosa Lane for the tip off!

I'm also excited to have secured the charcoal linen King bedhead I wanted for our new main bedroom. Dilema I posted about HERE, resolved! Yee Ha!

Can you believe we're well past the half way mark of 2013?!
Someone mentioned Christmas to me the other day. *shudder*
Don't know about you, but I feel like I'm in some kind of space- time warp continuum where everything is sped up! Wish it would slow down so I could disembark! LOL!

V.I.P project update

Work at Mum and Dad's is gathering momentum.

We've added internal house access to what was the laundry and included a W.C and vanity, creating an ensuite. A new northern window floods what was once a dark room with gorgeous natural light.

The rear door and window have been exchanged for a new sliding door unit which increases the light and visual space in the kitchen / dining area. This room has also had the original timber sliding doors replaced with cavity sliding doors for the same reasons.

The bathroom is getting closer to completion; waiting now for the custom built vanity, mirrored shaving cabinet and shower screen. The original feature tile from the bathroom has been carefully salvaged for a creative project. It has much sentiment attached to it by my sisters and I who bathed beneath it ever night!

Next week David is creating built-in robes to the bedrooms, painting is commencing and prep for the new kitchen will start. Phew!

Mum and Dad are faring well with the stress of the renovation...they're staying with us when the loud and really dirty work is done and go home, when they can, to the chaos! I have to say I'm loving every minute spent with them; we've been blessed with gorgeous weather which has facilitated many ocean walks and leisurely lunches!

Mum and Dad have chosen a neutral new palette, Smartstone Botticino stone countertops, Dulux Natural White joinery and various tones of Hog's Bristle walls throughout. They're still mulling over carpet choices but Godfrey Hirst eco+ Silk Bay is the current top contender!

That pretty much sums up this very important project's progress. I'll look forward to posting some finished pics in due course!

Crunch Time

I bragged HERE how one of my beautiful nieces (I have three) was signed by a big-name modelling agency. She's been working hard with them for two years and has enjoyed it immensely, even moving away from home to fulfil commitments with them. Now, they've asked her to loose 10 kilos.

At the tender age of 16, she is placed in the untenable position of choosing between career over health and lifestyle. She is mature beyond her years and I'm sure she'll make the right decision.
10 kilos! W.T.F!

decisions...

After much internal debate, I've decided on purchasing the same headboard for the new Main Bedroom as we have already (linen top, right below), except in a Charcoal colour.
Why re-invent the wheel?
I love my current headboard's height, fabric, quality and style but it won't 'work' with my chosen wall colour; Dulux Silver Illusion.

I posted about the dilemma HERE and I'm confident this is the right solution. The existing bedhead will be utilised in the guest bedroom but, here's the thing....I'm not sure I can buy it!
Fingers & Toes are seriously crossed I can track one down!

Am about to tune into the televised political debate between our Labour and Liberal Parties before our looming Australian election. It's a biggie...

Happy Birthday Ploddy!

The Central Coast's iconic dinosaur Ploddy, will share the Festival of 50 with David and I this year.
Ploddy is a life-sized replica of Diplodocous (extinct for more than 150 million years). Celebrations for heritage listed Ploddy began this week at her home (yes, she's a girl!), The Australian Reptile Park.

Source: News Limited
Ploddy was originally build at the former site of the Australian Reptile Park at Wyoming in 1963 by the park's founder, the late Eric Worrell, as a roadside mascot.
Sculptor Ken Mayfield constructed her from a photograph of the largest diplodocous specimen.
The finished product measured over 26 m and weighed about 100 tonnes.

Ploddy moved from Wyoming to Somersby in 1996 when the park relocated and became Australia's first giant roadside icon!
She is highly visible on a hill adjacent to the Sydney - Newcastle freeway and is seen every year by over 40 million passing vehicles!

Her concrete skin is repainted regularly to support local charities and events and is estimated to be 1.5cm thicker as a result.

From one dinosaur to another; Happy Birthday Ploddy!
