today

The dining area upstairs is ready for painting!!!!

David worked like a Trojan today sanding the ceilings and walls in this area so tomorrow we can seal them...then we'll be off for some well earned R & R with some great friends and former clients. So love getting to enjoy other people's beautiful new homes!

We ventured over to good Ol' Bunnings for new sanding materials and scored not only the quintessential morning sausage sanger but some bargain priced exterior wall lights too!
I've been looking for ages for something appropriate and within our tight budget and these ticked all those boxes. They are made from brushed aluminium so won't rust or tea-stain like their stainless steel counterparts and came in down and up-down lighting styles.
The best bit? After buying one of each to check they looked OK at La Hacienda, I saved a further $80 by buying the rest required online. With free delivery. Yee Ha!

Window Shopping...

Well, I mentioned HERE that I'd recently had a squizz at the new season Freedom Furniture and Domayne offerings.  I found a range in each store that interested me enough to take quick pics and deets which, quite frankly, hasn't happened in awhile!.

The top collage shows Freedom's new and extensive Signature Range. Available in rich walnut-stained American oak timber veneer or a high-gloss white lacquer finish, there are 130 various pieces on offer and I personally think they're on a winner with this design / price / quality equation.
I personally loved the largest sideboard and entertainment unit in the gloss white option and at $999 each they're realistic wish-list items.

Anyone who's persevered following moi for awhile will know of my love of mirrored furniture, especially bedroom items. Collage No. Two shows Domayne's two new ranges called Optical (bronze, smoke or clear mirror) and Modern (white, smoke and clear mirror on chrome legs). They  featured two base styles and drawer unit combinations. The best bit? The prices! $499 for the 3 drawer Optical bedside is definitely do-able! Yee Ha!
The white glass in the Modern range was something I hadn't seen before either. (even at the wholesale / trade events) and definitely worth a look if a contemporary aesthetic is your thing!

I have run out of room to store large decor items and Davey has declared that all spare moolah needs to be channeled straight to building materials to complete the house so I hope these items will still be available when I am financially freer to decorate.
(If they go on sale though.... *wink* LOL!)

I Spy...another favourite online shopping destination!

Beds / Cot from Incy Interiors

I spied this Rose-Gold coloured bed recently. D R O O L !!!!!!!
It is available in lots of sizes (I can imagine the Queen in my Guest Bedroom!) and colours and is available from Hard To Find, my newest, favourite online shopping destination.

Stumped for gift ideas? This is your one-stop destination. They produce a blog, magazine, style guides, gift guides and offer free shipping within Oz! The online store is easy to navigate and you'd be hard pressed not to find several items to fill your cart. The range is diverse as this is a carefully curated collection of individual sellers who present high quality products.

I've been poking around Freedom and Domayne too. They have some great new ranges available that I'll pop in a post soon. Davey's in 'clean up' mode and is grumbling as I'm sitting in bed 'playing' with my blog! Sheeesh

Have a lovely weekend!

Onto the next room...

After high-fiving ourselves silly over the final completion of two rooms, we have taken our own advice and are going to focus on finishing all the half finished rooms next. I first suggested this over a year ago and posted the plan of action HERE. Well, at least we're consistent...ly... slow! LOL!

The problem encountered then was locating a cost effective joinery to cut the melamine sheeting for the vanity carcass (The one we had been using had closed down). We eventually chose a well known national company and tried them out with the linen cupboard shelving. Unfortunately, they didn't use a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cutting machine which meant small inaccuracies in the dimensions, making tedious work for assembly with lots of planeing. Grrrr.

Any hoo, we'll try someone else for the main bathroom vanity but enquire about their cutting method first!. I have also since lost the vanity plan (although this old blog pic would have sufficed) and am now re-thinking the design. We were going to have two basins on a floating bench, behind which will be a wall of mirror. I still like this concept but am concerned about the limited storage for a main bathroom.

My inspiration pictures for this bathroom have been these:

Middle top: Architecture Saville Issaacs; my hubby was the builder. Middle left: Katrina & Amy The Block. Bottom Right: Minosa Vanity.
 And most recently this one:

Wolf Architecture and Minosa
Below is the temporary set up we've got showing the vanity bowl and tapware purchased.
I'm thinking of deleting the planned right hand bowl and having a wider bench space with a big drawer for storage. Maybe with a handle that doubles as a hand-towel rail.

Although we will have a bowl and tap 'spare' we can always store them for another project. The vanity top will need to be a white composite stone with this change too as I don't have a large slab of Crema Perla Marble to match the floor / walls in this room. (With two basins we did).

What are your thoughts?

I've also deleted the idea of wall sconces either side of the heated towel rails. After three purchases all looking wrong, I give up! David has agreed and the electrician can terminate the wiring. Easy Peasy!

Two (yes...2!) rooms complete!

OK, well they may be two on the tiniest rooms in our home but they're officially finished....yee ha!

Behold the magnificence of my walk-in-linen cupboard!

And the outdoor pool W.C!

Davey crafted some 'bushman's' handles for the wee vanity. (so I could blog that it's finished; God bless him!) No, they wont be staying... LOL!
Will pop into Bunnings tomorrow and buy some small chrome ones. Am really happy with the 2-pac vanity which I colour matched to the off-white wall tiles specifying Dulux Whisper White
For a bathroom created from 'left-overs' (lucky wins detailed HERE) I think it looks great! (And the translucent glass door perfect for shadow puppetry!)

Hope you're enjoying a rare, sunny weekend!

Busy. Busy. Busy.

The weather here is absolutely dismal as we experience the tail end of a low pressure system that was Western Australia's last cyclone. The good news is that I've been kept busy at the Sydney Trade Fairs, attending Design & Decoration, Reed Gift Fair and a Fashion buying one as a guest of a girlfriend. (Very different but lots of fun!)

I found lots of inspiration at the Interior's exhibits. Australia seems to be following the US led interest in anything chevron, nail-head trimmed or plushly upholstered. There were scores of different design styles catered for; tribal, Hampton's, french, minimal-modern and traditional.
Some of the stands were spectacular in their execution and showcased not only their products well but their design savvy as well. My favourite 'idea' was the use of large branches (lots of these to be collected after the recent storms!) displayed in umbrella stands or hung over tables. Entwined with fairy lights, fresh flowers and tiny decorations they were stunning! (Keeping this idea on file for my 50th birthday celebration!)

My friend and I stayed at The Sheraton on the Park (upgraded with executive club...Woo hoo!) and did a quick reconnaissance about the traps. O.M.G. My feet were on fire by the end of the second day, even though our wallets were a titch lighter! LOL! Loved David Jones' big mirror sign and you can never beat their food hall! Easter gifts all done and dusted!
Went for my first foray into Zara. L.O.V.E. My friend stocked up on some great children's wear but the sizing was too small to cater for J and I. I found a gazillion things I loved, but even an XL looked tiny and I wasn't in a try-on / get depressed frame of mind. (Having eaten and drunk my weight in seafood and Moet at DJ's Oyster bar for lunch is my excuse...)

Any hoo, I've done lots of online shopping for this winter...
I plan to be living in jeggings, ankle boots (posted HERE) and over-sized jumpers.  If your bathroom scales groan like mine do, check out Sussan's and Sportsgirl's offerings. My legs 'll be sporting the metallic, camo and damask trends in ridiculous comfort!!!
I've also finally succumbed  and got a few 'wish list' items struck off too; YSL Arty ring in rose gold! (net-a-porter), Jasper Conran for Wedgwood Kilim mugs (where else but POK), Chanel print (Jen Ramos) and THE 'cocky' cushion from Katrina and Amy's 'Block' bedroom (bonnie and neil)

Back at La Hacienda, the melamine was delivered for our under stairs linen cupboard and all but one unit has been built and installed. Don't you love that huge electrical main-frame box? Much bigger than expected - if I'd have known it was this size I'd have had the wiring come out of the opposite wall and within the shelving unit to keep the access walkway clear. Live & learn...

Having a quiet weekend. Davey is unfortunately ill with a Ménière's episode. I think I've posted about this bloody awful affliction before. Four years of total incapacitation. He's had a good run for the last few years but this will be his third and worst bout in the last six months.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Whatchaupto?
