Goodbye & Hello!

We were so thrilled to see Dan and Steph win My Kitchen Rules 2013. Although I think we would have been equally excited for siblings Jake and Elle. They were an awesome four! What were your thoughts after the grand final?

Did you watch the first episode of A Place To Call Home?
I loved it! Noni is giving my fond 'Play-School' memories of her a good shake up!

Are you watching this new drama?
Penny for your thoughts!

Hello Gorgeous!

School holidays are drawing to an end here, mores the pity. At 10, J is very independent and I can enjoy a lazy sleep-in when there's no school. No chasing him to bed at night is also heaven. We're getting back to routine over the weekend though in prep for Monday!

David has been busy upstairs again....no prizes for guessing what he's still doing!

Bought these black and white vases after 'um'ing and 'ah'ing for an eternity at Freedom and ordered a designer-copy-cat spine book tower thingy. It takes 12 weeks to get one! I just expected them to pop it in my car. LOL! Live and learn! I serendipitously received a $50 gift voucher too which was unexpected. Not sure what I'll buy with it yet....

Remember my recent post about Juju hats? Mine arrived today.... I love it's texture but I sadly packed it away until upstairs is ready to be decorated. *sigh*

And this absolutely gorgeous, sparkly Anya Hindmarch clutch may or may not be delivered soon. Perhaps in time for Mother's Day? NET-A-PORTER....I lurve you!

A recommended abode!

Looking for a ready to be inhabited beach side home? This could well be it....and I can vouch for it being well built!  My husband was contracted to construct this house for a lovely couple who resided in Singapore. This became their holiday home but they are now selling and it is ready to be loved by another family!
It's so nice to see the extensive professionally landscaped grounds at maturity. A friend of the owner who lived locally made the decor decisions. My wee input? Betcha can't guess....
The stairwell dark wall! LOL! It is Dulux PG1F9 Spanish Eyes.

Upstairs, the owner added red as a bold accent. Not my cuppa tea but it's only one wall. Certainly memorable and makes the custom wall unit a stand-out feature.

The main bedroom is very spacious with a to-die-for en suite.

The children's rooms seen above and below are spacious too and have a clever feature head board coloured specifically to the teens taste. It is painted MDF board hung on the wall so colour changing is easy peasy. I thought this was a brilliant idea and would work equally well using wallpaper.

Oh, and the views aren't too shabby either...and you'd be close enough to pop in and have a champers with Moi!

All the deets including address, price and a myriad of features can be found HERE.

Hit and Miss; some help required!

J is off to Canberra for three days / nights (I'll be a basket case!) in five weeks and he has a school project to complete before heading off; he needs to take his own knitted scarf!
His female peers (7 : 1 girl to boy ratio) have taken up this challenge with great enthusiasm. I can crochet and offered to help but David's nonchalant "I could knit at your age" statement made him the preferred teacher. TIP: Be careful what you brag about....LOL!
After consulting his good friend Mr. Google, David cast on and 45 minutes later (I kid you not) he had taught J every building site cuss that ever existed. And then some!

Pic 1. Row two attempted in bed this morning (is it pearl, is it plain...W.G.A.F.!) and J's first hands-on knitting experience. I dodged the flying skeins and needles and it was proven that J is a very good listener! It's going to be a short scarf!

Pic 2. Have you heard of Temple and Webster? I signed up and was excited to make my first purchase; this gorgeous map. After waiting yonks (and they had my moolah!) unfortunately they couldn't supply. SO disappointed!

Pic 3. LOVE this smoking skull image and I'm positive I've seen it as a cushion on Etsy but need help locating the seller!!!

Pic 4.  I snapped these horns at the January Decoration + Design Fair held in Sydney and if my memory is correct, this wholesaler also stocked Zebra hide rugs. Can anyone help with the supplier's name?

Ooooh...and its a definite 'Hit' for this wee bloggie. I won a generous Blog makeover from Katrina at Katrina from the Block! Bloggy botox coming my way soon!!!!

Stay tuned......

Juju

I can't imagine that there would be much Bamileke tribal dancing happening in Cameroon of late. The popularity of their headdress as interior wall decor is being experienced world wide.
I'm a joiner and am intending on adding a white piece of West African Royal lineage here.

Are you a joiner too?

I Loooooooove Blogs!!!!!!

Sometimes, all the new technology available makes our lives more complicated rather than easier.  Other times, it becomes a Godsend.
The greatest benefit of being aware of the blogging community is 'discovering' blogs that share my aesthetic.

Sometimes their images put you back 'on track'; set the course straight again and save you from becoming swamped by a plethora of good ideas in conflicting styles.

W. T. F. ?

How long have I patiently waited for my darling Bindi to be hung?
Waaaay too long!
So I pestered David over the weekend and this was his effort. W.T.?
Not only does the wire and fixings show (a definite no-no!!!) but they are the same ones that held up the painting that was there before and are too high. If I'd wanted a shoddy job, I'd have done it myself!

My excitement (shared with you HERE) at finding and purchasing our external lights was short lived. The globes that fit into them are discontinued. W.T.?
Hello...why sell a fitting that no-one can use!!!??? Grrrrrr......

Likewise, my much anticipated eBay bargain I bragged about HERE is a dud.
A Kate Spade Ice Queen neck piece is NOT wearable if it has three missing diamante! W.T?
Brand New? Pffffttt.

Remember THIS online purchase waaay back in 2011?
J's entire new bedroom was designed around this 'hero' piece. Why wait to use it in the new room I thought and so unwrapped it. W.T.? Queen size? More a single bed throw. And the pattern is pieced differently too; in large and small font stripes. Ewwh. I do not want to even recall how much I invested in this item.

Sooo...I'm still on the diet. And, I've lost 3 kilos. I am really struggling with it though.
Be kind with your comments....LOL!

The week so far...

After seriously coveting Erica's (Moth Design) J Crew Flower Lattice necklace for what seems like an eternity, my heart has now been stolen by Heidi's (Adelaide Villa) Kate Spade Ice Queen neck piece. Funny really, because I've never been one for costume jewelry. Never say never....The J Crew one was sold out when I first fell for it but can now be back ordered whilst the sold-out Kate Spade is only available from a few e-bay sellers. Both designs are equally stunning....and would make a perfect Mother's Day pressie. Hint Hint! Eenie-meenie-miney mo?

I can't believe another World's Greatest Shave day is upon us again. This was J's contribution this year. We are huge supporters of The Leukaemia Foundation here after watching my friend, and mother to J's, battle and lose her fight to this disease. I think of Lisa often and hope that a cure can be found soon.

Read about Bacon Jam on Made By Girl. Made some. (That's my batch mid cooking, above) Super easy and absolutely yum. (I tasted it only to ensure it was edible BTW! - still on my diet!)
Highly recommend. Deets can be found HERE

Everyone in blog-land was super excited about finding ceramic garden stools at The Reject Shop for $40 a few months back. I was too slow and missed out but they revisited this winner and I scored the last two white and a lone black in my local store. Yippee!
If you're after them, better get your skates on!

Bits 'n Bobs...

The weather here is really odd. Cold and raining one day and hot the next. The weekend was like that too. Didn't stop the boaties from getting their yachts out and sailing past our place on Saturday whilst David got the last coat onto the dining room ceiling.

David and I celebrated twelve years of marriage on Monday. I received a rare bunch of flowers and a store-bought card! Wonders never cease around here!

I decided to skip the opportunity to treat ourselves dinner at a swanky restaurant. I've started a diet and am doing well with it....so far. I didn't want to sabotage my own progress but don't worry, Davey didn't miss out. Cooked a ginger and plum pork roast for him. He reckons it was good.
Smelt that way. *sigh*

Handover : Point Frederick Project

Thought I'd post some final pics of this project (also seen HERE and HERE) as we handover to the clients. It is mostly complete however there are all the usual, and frustrating (for them and us), last minute finishing touches still to go.
Below is the view of the entry stairs after glazing. One piece of glass at the top of the stairs is missing as is the timber handrail. The wall joint between levels also needs beading and painting; left till last at the owners request.

The gas fireplace is installed and the owners decided that the ledge was to be completed with a painted faux concrete look rather than render or axolotl finish. It looks surprisingly good! We have suggested a mirrored plinth to reflect the flooring and achieve a floating effect but the clients are undecided.

I really love the study area of the home. The joinery makes this room very multifunctional. On one side is a heavenly expanse of workspace whilst the other hides cabinetry for generous storage .... and a bed for additional guests!

Now you see it....Now you don't!
The kitchen plays hide and seek also with fridge, freezer and pantry hidden behind cabinetry. There's room for a wee desk nook too!

Entertainment equipment hides in it's own purpose built cupboard alongside a discreet liqueur cabinet.

The finishes in the home are consistent and limited to timber, concrete and glass. Likewise, the colour palette has been restricted to white and grey. I love the warmth the timber adds aesthetically.

There are lots of considered details in this home that are unseen but create the minimal, cohesive aesthetic that was desired. Hydronic underfloor heating, flush external drainage, sliding hidden doors / walls to name but a few.

I hope we get invited back to see it furnished....I'd be itching to add some pops of colour to personalise the spaces if it were mine.

Speaking of which...our dining room ceiling is painted. Yay!
