IKEA. I - kea-d you not!

Remember my recent IKEA post HERE, where I sang their praises?

Well, as Murphy's Law would have it, I jinxed myself.

And of course, said shelf decided to de-construct at 2:30 am. Why do these things happen at night!
?
Thank goodness for Aunt Mary's old jug.
Coincidentally, the only glass that tumbled off was also hers but didn't break - on concrete floors!

The moral to this tale? Cost-effective furniture can come at a high price....

    1. Yup. Weird!
I think one has to just pick and choose carefully from ikea (their expedit bookcases, from experience are much more robust) or accept its a short term purchase to tide you over till better quality is affordable. X kl

  2. Yes, why at night? The same thing happens here when the smoke alarm battery needs changing, it always starts to beep in the middle of the night. I have the Ikea expedit book case and it has lasted very well, you do need to pick and choose. We just built our whole laundry using ikea and the quality is excellent. xT

    1. That's interesting about the cabinetry quality. I presume for something permanent and used in a wet area that they would not use the chip board / foil finish that keeps prices down on many budget furniture items. ? I recently saw your post on your new laundry / powder room and was very impressed. Never would I have guessed it was from Ikea!

  3. I'm laughing out loud!!!!!

Oh yep, the Ikea dilemma...the love/hate thing...Some of their stuff is fabulous (kitchens, expedit, besta) but yes, yours is such a familiar tale for us all! So much of their range is rubbish. And the amazing thing is that it is often cheaper to buy solidly made antiques, and yet still people flock to Ikea in droves.

    1. Yes!...too true re the antique longevity. Thought the same thing when a friend sold (to my daughter) her 8 seater heirloom table and chairs for $250. Perfect and solidly constructed to last another lifetime....but my friend's sleek new stainless steel and glass suite already has been chipped! The pendelum of style will swing again in due course....
